Duties

Parks Canada’s Visitor Services Attendants speak both French and English, and are often the first person to greet visitors when they arrive at one of our protected places across the country. By offering a warm greeting and a smile, they are laying the foundation for a positive experience through great service.

Visitor Services Attendants respond to visitor needs, process and collect fees and provide information. They also perform routine cleaning of the visitor facilities where they work. Attendant positions may be located at entrance gates, information or visitor centres, and at campground reception centres in PEI National Park or at Green Gables Heritage Place.

Our Visitor Services Attendants are warm and welcoming with excellent verbal communication skills. They are efficient and meticulous when it comes to records and revenue collection. They see an issue through to resolution by involving the appropriate team members. They are also a team player as they actively contribute to a diverse and inclusive workplace that values respect and equality.

STREAM 2:
In addition to the roles described for Visitor Services Attendants, some positions carry supervisory responsibilities. These team members take the lead in the supervisor’s absence, explains work tasks to colleagues, and prepares simple reports for supervisors and managers.

The results from this competition may be used to fill positions at PEI National Park and Green Gables Heritage Place in 2023.
A list of qualified candidates will be established, and may be used to fill similar positions of various tenures (temporary, indeterminate, full-time, part-time) and work locations.

EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma (Grade 12) or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Degree equivalency

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience working with the public.

EX2: Experience in providing leadership, either when supervising employees or through other means such as mentoring, volunteer work, coaching teams, etc. (STREAM 2 only)

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work shift-work, weekends, and statutory holidays
  • Wear a Parks Canada uniform as per the uniform policy and/or dress in period costume as per Parks Canada requirements
  • Work and/or travel in varied terrains, weather conditions, isolated locations and by various means of transportation

Conditions of employment

  • Reliability security clearance status
  • Possession of a valid class 5 Driver’s Licence (PEI National Park Only)
  • Valid First Aid & CPR certification
