Job Summary

The Vital Statistics Agency (Agency) administers a Provincial program focusing on the registration of vital life events and the production of abstracts and certificates of those events to the general public. The Agency is responsible through existing legislation for birth, death, stillbirth, marriage, change of name, adoption, and wills registry. Other services include issuance of marriage licenses; disposition permits; certificates; and, appointment of marriage license issuers, marriage commissioners, district registrars, and the registration of religious representatives. The Agency also produces data and a number of health status indicators that are utilized as key information resources by both provincial and federal health planners and researchers.

The Confidential Services Unit administers the change of name, adoption registration and adoption genealogy functions for the Agency. The Unit completes authorized confidential changes of name as required. These functions are administered in accordance with the Vital Statistics Act, Name Act, Adoption Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

The Confidential Services Clerk is responsible for processing legal changes of name, registering of adoptions, and providing support to the Team Lead for investigative information enquiries.

Job Requirements:

  • Secondary School graduation or equivalent (GED);
  • A minimum of 3 years of clerical/administrative support experience working in a high-volume customer service environment providing service delivery to the public.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience with MS Word, Excel, email, databases, and other standard computer applications.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Post-secondary education.
  • Experience working with confidential files and handling sensitive information.
  • Experience performing duties independently and under limited guidance.
  • Experience referencing, interpreting, and applying a variety of policies and procedures to determine the appropriate course of action.
