Labourer (Auxiliary)

4-month Summer Term

($29.60 per hour – 2023 rates)

The District of North Saanich invites applications for two (2) positions of Labourer (Auxiliary) – Public Works.

These positions involve general labouring work of an unskilled or limited semi-skilled nature involving the performance of a variety of manual tasks related to operations and maintenance work in a municipal public works setting for the Parks, Roads and Drainage and/or Utilities departments. The incumbents will perform a variety of manual labouring tasks related to the operation and maintenance of parks, trails, beach accesses, roads, surface drains, culverts, sewers and water systems.

These are union positions and are subject to the terms and conditions in the Collective Agreement between the District of North Saanich and the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 374.

These positions require the completion of the tenth (10th) school grade, preferably supplemented by courses related to the work; previous experience as a manual labourer in the construction industry or a local government setting; the ability to acquire and maintain a valid traffic control certificate; the ability to complete EOCP Operator Certification which would be considered during reclassification process; and possession of a valid B.C driver’s licence (Class 5).
