We are looking for a Technical Officer, Cement and Concrete Materials to support our Construction Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
NRC Construction is implementing the “Platform to Decarbonize the Construction Sector at Scale” to accelerate and scale up new technologies to help transition the Canadian construction sector towards decarbonization and contribute to the emerging low-carbon economy. It will also establish new codes, standards, specifications, and guidelines to position the sector to achieve its 2050 greenhouse gas (GHG) carbon reduction targets. These investments will help spur the growth of Canada’s clean technology sector and help achieve Canada’s international commitments to reduce GHG emissions.
The successful candidate will play an important role within a team working towards investigating problems and developing solutions for sustainable resilient infrastructure and communities.
Responsibilities will include:
- The provision of technical support services in the design, planning, preparation, conduct and analysis of various experiments and/or tests, and
- The coordination and maintenance of the concrete and mortar facility and related equipment.
Screening Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
University degree or college diploma in civil engineering or materials science is preferred.
Other related degree or diploma may be considered.
An equivalent combination of work related experience, training and education may be considered.

Experience
- Significant experience providing technical support in concrete materials and structural engineering.
- Significant experience with methods and techniques related to preparing for, conducting, documenting and analyzing experiments/tests in concrete materials technology. such as concrete sample preparation, measurement of fresh properties, mechanical properties and durability evaluation of hardened concrete.
- Significant experience with the safe operation, maintenance, verification, repair and installation of equipment and laboratory apparatus such as servo-hydraulic testing systems, data acquisition systems and equipment for measuring deformation.
The following assets will be considered:
- Experience in corrosion field assessment of concrete infrastructure would be considered an asset.
- Experience working in a project management focused multi-disciplinary research environment.
- Experience in using specialized domain-specific software including servo control systems, data acquisition software, as well as general office software products.

- Ability to analyze and discuss technical issues, troubleshoot and solve problems relating to concrete properties and its durability testing, servo-hydraulic testing systems, data acquisition systems and deformation sensors.
- Ability to write reports and draft protocols and standard operating procedures.

Relocation
Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with the NRC’s directives.
Compensation
From $58,445 to $80,040 per annum.
